I’m expecting robots instead of a millennial friendly work environment

I love this article. . It directly says, these employers should stop labeling the millennials with the same adjectives over and over again. They need to focus on how they can change their work environment which now seems old-fashioned. Because 35% of the workforce will consist of millennials by 2020—and a further 24 percent will be Gen Z workers.

Look at these articles: Millennials are entitled” at work. They’re the Me Me Me Generation,” and they want success on a plate. 

Emma Gannon—author of The Multi-Hyphen Method, a book about what the future of the workplace might look like—says millennials get frustrated when they find themselves in corporate organisations that aren’t as open to change, and that are reluctant to break with the status quo. They’re labelled entitled because they get really frustrated in a meeting for a long time. Does it mean that they’re entitled? No.

Like it or not, the work culture is evolving. For example, they do care about work environment more than the career ladder. They would rather take a $7,600  salary cut to work in an environment that affords better quality of life. Here it is. Who thinks differently by the way?

Another reason of this tension is the generational differences in education. Older generations were used to study alone and they show their own studies. However millennials’ education system is more on group discussion, debates and seminers etc. “They were taught to think for themselves, find their own facts and stand on their own two feet.” It’s “easy to understand why millennials can seem entitled” to older generations. “But they’re not – they’re just different.”

And technology is another reason. Gannon says “You’ve got these millennials with so many skills, niche skills and experiences, that aren’t being put to work because there’s so much structure around old ways of working that are still so prevalent right now,”

So instead of labeling them entitled or egocentric, it’s more useful think about how can you take advantage of their niche skills how can you adapt your work environment for them.

Bu I think – based on the fact that we’re still arguing about wearing jeans at work or not – robots will take over evething before adapting the work culture for millennials.
